Multispecies Empathy
NOW
The workshop framework was developed as part of a Master’s thesis at Art Academy of Latvia exploring participatory design methods that cultivate multispecies empathy. Different iterations of the workshop have been adapted to various contexts and have taken place at Children's Clinical University Hospital, the Art Academy of Latvia Design Summer School, an international artist residency Becoming TAIGA (by collective New Visions) and other. The method provides an empathetic space for an open dialogue about vulnerability, future, hope, and reciprocal coexistence.
The aim of the experience is to foster a sense of intimacy and to see the environment through the eyes of other living beings. How can we collectively imagine regenerative futures on the brink of the sixth mass extinction?
