Ecologies of Home

Can urban housing rehabilitation be inclusive for other species? Ecologies of Home focuses on cities as multispecies habitats, speculating about urban housing rehabilitation inclusive for other species, focusing on the context of Oslo.

The project responds to the climate emergency as a relational crisis, rooted in the separation between humans and nature. While a city is visually dominated by human-made buildings, it is richly inhabited by other species. Many bird and bat species inhabit human housing, living in small gaps in facades, former food cooling chambers, or roof openings. While these species are dependent on human housing, they often stay invisible and might be interrupted by human activity or housing renovation, losing their habitats.

Within the Ecologies of Home project we aim to foster broader sensibility of multispecies ecology and regenerative urban futures, while exploring and developing specific multispecies-friendly rehabilitation experiments.

The project is developed in collaboration with ACT!

Ecologies of Home project is supported by Sparebankstiftelsen DNB.
